LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. Oct.
1, 2003 - Canon is offering a new firmware upgrade
that adds support for PictBridge™ technology to the popular EOS
10D and seven PowerShot cameras released in 2003. This upgrade
increases the number of PictBridge-enabled Canon digital cameras
to 13 models, the largest selection in the photo industry. PictBridge
technology provides a quick and easy method for consumers to
print high-quality digital photos at home.
"Canon demonstrates its commitment to direct photo printing
by offering consumers a wide range of PictBridge-enabled digital
still and video cameras as well as a full line of photo printers," said
Yukiaki Hashimoto, senior vice president and general manager
of the Consumer Imaging Group at Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary
of Canon Inc. (NYSE:CAJ). "Canon embraces PictBridge technology
because it is an open format that offers consumers a simple and
easy method for printing their photos directly from capture device
to printer -
regardless of brand."
Available Oct. 1 on Canon's website at www.powershot.com ,
consumers will find simple instructions on how to download and install
the firmware upgrade onto their digital camera. Models eligible for the
firmware upgrade include:
• PowerShot A300
• PowerShot A60
• PowerShot A70
• PowerShot SD100 Digital ELPH
• PowerShot S400 Digital ELPH
• PowerShot S50; and
• PowerShot G5.
The PictBridge firmware technology upgrade for the EOS10D will be available
later this year.
PictBridge technology is a new industry standard in direct photo printing
that enables consumers to connect their digital camera or camcorder directly
to a PictBridge-enabled printer, making it easy to print pictures without
a computer at home, in the office or while traveling. Print quantities,
paper sizes, date imprinting, image cropping and other settings are made
on the camera's LCD monitor. PictBridge technology also supports Exif
Print, another open standard that improves print quality by taking information
about camera settings into account to produce more accurate contrast,
saturation and brightness.

DIGITAL REBEL SCHOOL |

| Website Lessons Explain, Explore And Excite With Focus On Camera
Features And Photo Techniques |
 |
LAKE SUCCESS, NY, Sept.
15, 2003 - Digital photography is getting easier and
easier thanks to Canon's new 6.3 megapixel EOS Digital Rebel
SLR and a new website that offers clear, concise and compelling
lessons for this new camera as well as general photographic principles
and techniques. Like the EOS Digital Rebel camera itself, the
web-based lessons are the soul of simplicity and are being created
for Canon by nationally syndicated photo columnist Rick Sammon.
The initial ten lessons - debuting at www.photoworkshop.com
on September 15, 2003 - offer an overview of digital photography
and the EOS Digital Rebel as well as a step-by-step tutorial
on the camera's various settings and how they are best utilized.
The site also provides easy to follow photo-taking tips that
will help users optimize their results when shooting people,
creative landscapes and scenics, action and sporting events,
travel pictures, candid city chronicles and even the lowlight
challenge of nighttime photography. With new lessons added each
month, users are encouraged to return to the site over and over
to learn new tips, glean new techniques and assimilate new skill
sets.
"Like the EOS Digital Rebel camera itself, the lessons are brilliant in their
clarity and simplicity," states Yukiaki Hashimoto, senior vice president and
general manager of the Consumer Imaging Group at Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary
of Canon Inc. (NYSE:CAJ). "What's more, by constantly adding new lessons and
targeting techniques to all levels of user experience, our Digital Rebel users
can advance and expand their digital photography skills at their own pace and
according to their own interests and needs."
In addition to the extremely user friendly lessons created by Sammon
for the EOS Digital Rebel camera, the site is liberally sprinkled with
words of encouragement and photo philosophy from such imaging legends
and luminaries as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Dorothea Lange, Yousuf Karsh
and others. Canon will actively promote the website lessons in packaging
and advertising for the new EOS Digital Rebel Camera and EOS Digital
Rebel Camera kit. Canon homepages will also carry hotlinks to the lessons
page, providing easy access and seamless transitions from site to site.
An independent website, Photoworkshop will
also feature links to the Canon Camera Museum site, a soon to be launched
Explorers of Light Gallery, Digital Learning Center and the EOS Digital
Rebel homepage. The Photoworkshop.com website also offers an extensive
array of other photo resources including member showcases and public
forums where participants can engage in discussions and gain guidance
from other photographers. The site also features a 3D navigation experience
that allows visitors to take a cyber stroll through photo galleries,
access tutorials for a variety of imaging products, programs and proven
techniques and visit other rooms within Photoworkshop.com to gain specialized
insights, tips and even downloadable materials such as model releases.
Subject areas covered by Rick Sammon in the first ten lessons are:
1. New to Digital SLR Photography?
2. Setting Your Camera for Great Shots
3. Exploring the Digital Rebel's Exposure Modes
4. Focus on Autofocusing
5. Picturing People
6. Creative Landscape Photography
